Have you ever read the inspirational book called "How Willy Got His Wheels"? This is based on a true story about a dog who has paralyzed rear legs and starts walking again with the help of his wheels and love, and was honored with the 1998 Maxwell Award for Children's Literature, and was nominated for a Caldecott Award for its illustrations.
Willy is a cute little Chihuahua who was rescued by an animal hospital. They tried to find him a new home but nobody wanted him because he was a little different from other dogs. He had a handicap in his legs and a severed vocal cord. In the end, a lady named Deborah decided to take him home and with her help, he found a way to walk again with a little cart. Since then he has visited hospitals and with his high spirit of love and joy, he has touched a lot of people who have disabilities, and given them hope and helped open up their heart again. Even though he had a disability, he kept his spirit high and overcame his handicap. He enjoyed his life like a normal dog.
Please have a moment to read this book. Even if you don’t have any disabilities, I hope you will be inspired and that this book will cheer you up when you are going through difficult times because in a way, we are all born as handicapped. We are here on this earth to learn to overcome the handicap. It may not just be a physical handicap either. It could be your ego, certain aspects of your personality, or difficulties you have faced in your life or your upbringing. Everyone has their own unique challenges to face in life. This book also teaches us not to give up, and of the importance of any form of life, love, hope, acceptance and kindness .
With love,
